Anderson moeiteloos aan de saga heeft toegevoegd, nadat pa Herbert al ruimschoots overleden was. Je mag wel zeggen dat Frank zelf de reeks al meer dan uitgediept had. Het creëren van een spin-off kan gebeuren door een tweetal zienswegen. Een die gericht is op stomweg meer geld generen (zoals bij ''Duin''), of het meer uitdiepen van het verhaal, door ingeslagen wegen door te trekken, omdat er in het oorspronkelijke verhaal verder geen aandacht (misschien bij gebrek aan plek, of niet voldoende doordacht) aan geschonken werd. Het meer uitdiepen lijkt hier duidelijk het geval te zijn. Nooit van gehoord! Volgens ISFDB heeft ze toch wel wat Young Adult Fantastiek, al dan niet in samenwerking met andere auteurs, op haar naam staan. Ze is in ieder geval een oud-leerling en vriendin van Brandon Sanderson. Janci schreef ook met Brandon mee aan de Skyward-novellen ''Station Zonnewind'', ''Terug naar ReDawn'' en ''Eeuwige kus''t. Zij en Brandon brainstormden samen over de verhalen, waarna Janci het grootste deel van de schets maakte, terwijl ze steeds de verschillende ideeën met Brandon besprak. Vervolgens schreef Janci bijna het gehele eerste concept, terwijl Brandon een redline-bewerking uitvoerde. De spanning is al dik te snijden als je middenin een grootse ruimteslag tussen de Krell en de jonge piloten van de Superioriteit valt. In ''Sterrenvlucht'' speelde Spensa de hoofdrol zo’n beetje en hadden figuren als FM, die hier een hoofdrol vervult, een bijrolletje. Eerlijk gezegd heb ik nog weinig herinnering aan ''Sterrenvlucht'' en mijn recensie (uit juni 2021), daar maak ik verder ook weinig uit op. Maar ja... dik twee jaar na dato? Hoeveel boeken, en vooral, verhalen heb ik sindsdien wel niet gelezen? En met een aangetast geheugen... is er ook niet veel kans dat er veel in blijft hangen. Maar alla... ''Station Zonnewind'', was een leuké en leesbare novelle. Er zit een behoorlijke spanningsopbouw in, omdat FM samen met anderen het geheim van hyperdrives (slakken?
