Eigenzinnig, soms doorspekt met humor wordt commentaar gegeven op gebeurtenissen als: de tsunami, de Olympische Spelen in Griekenland en de hedendaagse mens. Daarna verhaalt de auteur over zijn demente schoonvader die vroeger chauffeur was en over zijn galblaasoperatie (non-fictiever en autobiografischer is nauwelijks mogelijk). Het titelverhaal, veruit het langste verhaal van het boek, speelt zich af in het midden van de eenentwintigste eeuw. In een totaal andere wereld dan de onze (De Nieuwe Wereld) wordt een bijzondere en absurde wedstrijd (De Grote Wedstrijd) beschreven.</ins></div></td></tr> </table>
