In zijn geboortejaar sneuvelde zijn vader. Een stroomversnelling van gebeurtenissen volgde: het einde van de Tweede Wereldoorlog en de opsplitsing van Berlijn (het gezin Kordon kwam in Oost-Berlijn te wonen). Daarnaast was de situatie thuis problematisch: zijn moeder kon zich slechts met moeite staande houden, en werkte in een kroeg die hij verafschuwde. Toch heeft hij er ook veel gezien en veel mensen ontmoet. Toen Klaus Kordon zeven jaar oud was overleed zijn broer. Zijn moeder hertrouwde en met zijn stiefvader heeft hij nooit een goede relatie gehad. Zes jaar later stierf zijn moeder. Als gevolg daarvan verhuisde hij tot zijn achttiende van het ene tehuis naar het andere. Hij had verschillende baantjes, haalde op de avondschool zijn diploma en ging economie studeren. Als exporteur maakte Klaus Kordon vele zakenreizen door Europa, Azië en Afrika. Vooral India leerde hij goed kennen. Zo ontstond zijn interesse voor de derde wereldproblematiek. Toen hij een verzoek indiende de DDR te mogen verlaten, kreeg hij één jaar gevangenisstraf. Pas in 1973 wist hij zich vrij te kopen. Samen met vrouw en kinderen vestigde hij zich in Schwalbach aan de Taunus, in West-Duitsland. Tegenwoordig woont Klaus Kordon in Berlijn. In Duitsland werd hij vaak bekroond en voor elk van de boeken ‘Moenli en de moeder van de wolven’, Met je rug tegen de muur’ en ‘De eerste lente’ ontving hij hier een Zilveren Griffel.</ins></div></td></tr> </table>
