Nederlandse vertaler, publicist, opmaker en redacteur. Robbert-Jan Henkes studeerde geschiedenis aan de Universiteit van Amsterdam. Tijdens de bezetting van een universiteitsgebouw in 1982 ontmoette hij Erik Bindervoet. Redacteur van het strijdschrift Platforum, een onregelmatig maar geregeld verschijnend literair-maritiem-filosofisch tijdschrift voor expliciete lyriek, spaak lopende maar spraakmakende polemiek, poëzie, vertalingen, tekeningen en kennisvelden die in de belangstelling staan. Publiceerde met mederedacteur Erik Bindervoet vanaf 1986 regelmatig in o.a.  Hollands Maandblad, Filosofie Magazine, VPRO-Gids, Het Parool, Trouw en NRC Handelsblad. Hun gezamenlijk debuut, de roman Autobiografie van een Polemist verscheen in 1990 bij uitgeverij Rothschild &amp; Bach. Samen vertaalden zij o.a. alle liedjes van The Beatles en Bob Dylan, aria’s van Wagner (voor de productie Wolven, van het Opera Theater Amsterdam), poëzie (o.a. voor de bloemlezing 500 gedichten die iedereen gelezen moet hebben), verhalen van Woody Allen, toneel van W. Shakespeare en Karl Kraus en (bijna) het complete oeuvre van James Joyce. Voor de Oxford University Press werken zij aan een herziene editie van de oorspronkelijke tekst van ‘Finnegans Wake’, te verschijnen in 2019. In 2018 verschijnt het verzameld werk van Joyce in de vertaling van Bindervoet &amp; Henkes bij Athenaeum, Polak &amp; Van Gennep. Voor de Nationale Opera bewerkten zij, voor kinderen, ‘Il Viaggio a Reims’ van Rossini, onder de titel ‘Reimsreisje’. In 2017 volgt ‘Hondenhartje’, naar de opera ‘Hondenhart’ van Raskatov. Optredens, als duo en solo: o.a. in het VPRO-radioprogramma De Avonden (Music Hall), Met het oog op Morgen, OVT, de radiodocumentaire De klank van Ulysses (Guido Spring, NTR), op diverse podia (theaters, boekhandels, scholen, universiteiten, musea, Perdu, De Balie, De Nieuwe Liefde, de Hermitage, het Onze taal-congres) en festivals (Oerol, Double Talk, Crossing Border, Lowlands, Sunsation Festival). Sinds 2013 geven Bindervoet &amp; Henkes de cursus ‘Ulysses lezen met de vertalers’. Robbert-Jan Henkes publiceerde collages in Filosofie Magazine en Het Parool. Solo vertaalde hij werk van Anatoli Mariëngof, Ardrej Tarkovski en Russische kindergedichten (2009), ‘Tijger op Straat’ (2009), Hoogland &amp; Van Klaveren, geïllustreerd door Erik Bindervoet, bekroond met een Vlag en Wimpel; 2016, Van Oorschot  Met ‘Bij mij op de maan’, ''Een keuze uit de Russische kindergedichten vanaf de zeventiende eeuw'' (Van Oorschot), won hij De Aleida Schotprijs in 2018. Het is de tweede bekroning voor deze, met een beurs van het Letterenfonds tot stand gekomen bloemlezing; eerder ontving Henkes al de Filter Vertaalprijs 2017. In 2017 verschijnt bij Querido zijn kindergedichtenboek ‘We doen speurtochtboswandelingverjaardag’, met illustraties van Marga van de Heuvel. Hij vertaalde voor Lebowski Mike McCormack, ‘Dag der zielen’ (geshortlist voor de Europese Literatuurprijs 2018) en J.G. Ballard, ‘Hallo Amerika!’.
