Harry Brioche is een beroemde landschapsschilder. Kind van Creoolse en Amerikaanse afkomst, en beleefde een heerlijke jeugd op het eiland Mahé. Hieraan kwam echter abrupt een einde toen zijn familie gedwongen werd het eiland te ontvluchten en de staatsgreep in 1977. Harry verhuisde uiteindelijk in 1980 met zijn moeder en Engelse stiefvader naar Engeland en omarmde zijn nieuwe land en cultuur. Harry beschouwt zichzelf als een autodidact, ondanks zijn studie aan de kunstacademie.
