Peter de Lange deed de opleiding tot tekendocent aan d’Witte Lelie in Amsterdam. Daarna volgde hij een vierjarige opleiding aan de Rijks­academie van Beeldende Kunsten. Sindsdien werkt hij in zijn eigen atelier. Zijn inspiratie vindt hij dichtbij: zijn eigen leven, gebeurtenissen in de wereld, films, boeken, foto's, muziek en natuur. Naast kunstenaar is hij parttime wiskundeleraar op een vwo-school. Een minder gekke combinatie dan je op het eerste gezicht zou denken… In beide vakken gaat het om oplossingen zoeken, waarbij behalve kennis en vaardigheid ook creativiteit nodig is. Alleen is bij schilderen niet de verklaring het doel. Het doel is daar een oplossing die niet eenduidig is in zijn betekenis. Het is meer een gevoelde oplossing dan een beredeneerde oplossing, waardoor het beeld nog een raadsel in zich bergt. Het kunnen onbewuste droombeelden zijn, of associatieve ingevingen: beelden komen op allerlei manieren binnen en vertalen zich op het doek. De schilder hanteert een diversiteit aan stijlen en technieken. Toevalsoperaties versterken het spontane karakter van het werk: spetters, druipers, wilde uithalen met de kwast, of het verrassende effect van blootgelegde onderliggende verflagen door het wegkrassen en wegvegen. De verfstructuren hebben weliswaar een eigen zeggingskracht maar juist in combinatie met mens- en dierfiguren, en landschapselementen als bossen en water, ontstaan verhalende, betekenisvolle schilderijen.</ins></div></td></tr> </table>
